The 'HaloRC BM Studio Bluetooth Backpack' was created to provide a feature that was missing from Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera's, wireless camera control. The backpack uses Bluetooth to wirelessly connect to our 'Blackmagic Bluetooth Controller' and provides control of the button interface.
The backpack relocates the button interface to the top of the camera and can be used with or without a bluetooth controller. The tactile buttons provide an improved experience over the original mushy buttons, while the position of them is more suitable for camera operators.
Designed to integrate with all versions of the Micro Studio Camera, this non destructive modification is easy to install yourself and will transform the way you use the camera. It is also a simple process to revert back to the original button setup.
The Blackmagic Micro Studio camera's can be controlled over HDMI, USB-C or SDI. However, all these methods require connecting other equipment and/or connecting to a network. With the latest G2 version requiring the use of the USB-C for recording to external media, this also limits the way we can control the camera.
We looked at using these more standard methods of connecting to the camera, but all required bulky and heavy cables and equipment that would make the camera a lot bigger and heavier. This might be okay for some users, but we wanted a much cleaner solution that was small and lightweight.
The 'HaloRC BM Studio Bluetooth Backback' connects to the camera using the original button interface input. The original buttons are replaced with a custom ribbon cable that feeds up to the Bluetooth Backpack. By using this method we keep the USB-C free for recording to external media, and the overall size and weight is kept to a minimum.
The 'HaloRC BM Studio Bluetooth Backpack' uses a simple command control protocol to wirelessly control the camera over Bluetooth. On release, the only compatable controller is our 'HaloRC Blackmagic Controller'. However, we are happy to provide details to other developers on how to integrate control of the backpack in other systems or apps on request.
The 'HaloRC Blackmagic Controller' can control all Blackmagic cameras that use Bluetooth communication, such as the Pocket 4K and 6K. With the addition of our Bluetooth Backpack, the Micro Studio camera's can now be controlled with this device too.
We are offering a bundle option that includes both the Bluetooth Backpack and the Blackmagic Controller at a discounted price. You can learn more about the Blackmagic Controller on the product page here
Securing the Bluetooth Backpack to your Blackmagic Micro Studio camera is acheived by utilising the LP-E6 battery bay and the 1/4-20 thread on the top of the camera. The Bluetooth Backpack simply fits into the battery bay just like an LP-E6 battery. A single 1/4-20 bolt is then fitted through the Bluetooth Backpack and into the top of the Blackmagic camera itself.
This mounting method not only keeps the Bluetooth Backpack safe and secure, but it also provides more mounting points for rigging and mounting the camera into your setup.
There is an additional 1/4-20 thread in the top of the Bluetooth Backpack that allows you to add attachments more securely. Perfectly spaced for attaching a NATO rail or a cheese plate, or use the included NP-F mount to attach a DJI SDR Transmission for full wireless control and video feed.
Further to the 1/4-20 mounting points on the top, there are 4 M3 bolts securing a carbon fibre panel to the rear of the Bluetooth Backpack. This is where you can add various attachments that we have designed, such as the included SSD Drive Bay.
These additional attachments offer further expansion of this camera setup and allows us to develop more attachments in the future to suit your needs. The SSD Drive Bay provides a secure place to mount your external media.
